Medical Marijuana Evaluation

Medical marijuana is a legal treatment option in Florida for certain qualifying conditions. Dr. Kim evaluates each patient individually and determines whether medical marijuana certification is appropriate based on your history, symptoms, and treatment goals.

Important: Florida law requires the initial medical marijuana evaluation to be conducted in person. Follow-up visits may be eligible for telehealth when permitted by law.

OverviewMedical marijuana as a treatment option

Medical marijuana is one of many tools available to help manage certain chronic symptoms and medical conditions. Like any treatment, it should be considered thoughtfully and in the context of your overall health.

Dr. Kim approaches medical marijuana the same way he approaches any medical decision: by reviewing your history, understanding your goals, discussing risks and benefits, and determining whether it is clinically appropriate for your situation.

EligibilityFlorida qualifying conditions

Florida law recognizes several qualifying conditions and also allows certification for conditions of a similar kind or class when appropriate.

EvidenceWhat the research shows

Pain conditions

Evidence varies by condition

Some patients report benefit for persistent pain, but product type, dose, route, and individual response matter. Dr. Kim reviews whether medical marijuana fits your situation.

Multiple sclerosis spasticity

Clinical evidence exists

Cannabinoid-based treatments may help some patients with spasticity symptoms. Treatment decisions still require individualized review.

Chemotherapy-induced nausea

Established medical use

Certain cannabinoid medications have evidence for nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy.

PTSD

Limited but relevant evidence

Evidence is still developing. Medical marijuana may be considered in selected patients when clinically appropriate.

Epilepsy

Specific evidence for CBD-based treatment

CBD-based medication has shown benefit in certain seizure disorders. Broader medical marijuana use still requires careful evaluation.

Evidence discussion is educational and does not guarantee certification or treatment.
